Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is a type of surgery that uses small cuts, or incisions, in the skin to access the inside of the body. This type of surgery is less invasive than traditional open surgery, which involves making a larger incision.
You are here:

Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a laparoscope, a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at the end, to perform surgery in the abdomen or pelvis. The laparoscope is inserted through a small incision in the skin, and the camera transmits images of the inside of the body to a video monitor. The surgeon uses these images to guide the surgical instruments, which are also inserted through small incisions.

    What is laparoscopic surgery?

Laparoscopic surgery is a type of surgery that uses small cuts, or incisions, in the skin to access the inside of the body. This type of surgery is less invasive than traditional open surgery, which involves making a larger incision. Laparoscopic surgery is often used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

    How is laparoscopic surgery performed?

Laparoscopic surgery is performed under general anesthesia. This means that you will be unconscious during the procedure. The surgeon will make a few small incisions in your skin, usually in the abdomen. A laparoscope, a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at the end, is inserted through one of the incisions. The laparoscope allows the surgeon to see inside your body and guide the surgical instruments.

    The laparoscopic surgery procedure

During laparoscopic surgery, you will be lying on your back on a table. The surgeon will make a few small incisions in your skin, usually in the abdomen. A laparoscope, a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at the end, is inserted through one of the incisions. The laparoscope allows the surgeon to see inside your body and guide the surgical instruments.

    After Laparoscopic Surgery

After laparoscopic surgery, you will be monitored in the recovery room for a short period of time. You may have some pain, nausea, or vomiting. Most people are able to go home the same day after the procedure.
